(More customer reviews)I purchased this helmet for my son after a branded Razor(tm) helmet he received for Christmas was found too large to fit him properly (youth v. child size). Kent distributes both helmets, but this one appears much more cheaply made. My son and I were disappointment when we received it several days later than expected. The first thing noticed when I opened the box was not the quality, but rather the color scheme. Rather than the yellow fading to red flames shown in the picture, the yellow fades to pink then purple. Remember that this is supposed to be for a boy (who happens to be very picky about not wearing pink). After confirming that the colors did not match the posted picture here on Amazon I started some research and found no Razor(tm) helmets matching the description posted. I dismissed this as a suspicious yet legal advertising ploy, since the posting does not indicate that this is actually a Razor(tm) helmet or indicate any affiliation with the brand name, such as the company history that fills space on every branded products page.
I was interested to find that both the branded helmet and this helmet were distributed by Kent and that both helmets were produced in China (Razor(tm) prides itself on being made in the US). The key differences that I noted were that the branded helmet has an hard plastic outer shell and stiff, grey interior foam similar to that found helmets from Bell, Giro, and other respected helmet brands; whereas this helmet has a thin plastic covering, no thicker than a milk carton, with what appears to be hardened Styrofoam. Both are rated to CPSC safety standards.
So, complaints:
- This is not a Razor(tm) helmet
- The actual helmet does not match the one shown in the picture
- The helmet feels cheap even if it does meet federal safety standards
What to do - I have a daughter who will be old enough to wear this a couple years and should like the pink and purple flames. If not, I'm out 12 bucks plus shipping. It's not worth my time or trouble to have the matter corrected when could buy another helmet for a little more than the cost to send it back. As for my son, after two failed attempts, we are off to a bricks and mortar store to get a helmet that fits and looks good.
